photography // book design

I set out to rediscover my families cottage and the small rural town wrapped around it. Growing up, my family came here year-round enjoying summer swims, fall walks, snowy winters, and rainy springs, but this was the first time I spent a weekend here completely on my own. Without the usual family routine, I was free to wander without an agenda.

DISCIPLINES: PHOTOGRAPHY, BOOK DESIGN

My process was simple but intentional: I walked everywhere, letting curiosity guide me. I slowed down, noticed textures, colors, and corners I’d overlooked in the past, and photographed anything that caught my eye. By moving at my own pace, I was able to see this town as both memory and discovery at the same time.

As a chronic over-shooter and a proudly indecisive human, my first printout of this project? A casual 153 photos. Because why commit to one perfect shot when you can have… well, every possible version of it? Editing down is basically my personal endurance sport, but at least it proves I’ll never run out of options.

Once I had photos printed, the real chaos began. I spread them all out on the floor and took inventory of what I had. From there it was a collaborative process between friends, colleagues and random strangers, to whittle down the massive pile. Some photos got promoted, others got cut, and a few staged dramatic comebacks. In the end, slowly, a sequence started to take shape.

The final book was printed hardcover, wrapped in a tan linen, with a 2/3 dust jacket.
